The Spero Recovery Difference
At Spero Recovery Center, we teach men how to recover in real-time with support and counseling. We teach our clients how to be honest with one another and how to hold each other accountable. Members from our local recovery community offer counseling sessions to show our clients how to recover in the outside world. We use a holistic approach that addresses the physical, emotional, and spiritual aspects of recovery, ensuring that every part of the healing process is supported.
Our unique approach allows our clients to develop a connection with each other. When our clients feel like they are getting something done as a team, instead of just being told what to do, they feel a sense of ownership. Our program provides men with the tools they need to lead a fulfilling life in recovery. By doing this, we help men find their path to long-term recovery.
The community vibe we foster at Spero Recovery enables our clients to feel comfortable and teaches them interpersonal skills. We want to create a safe environment for our clients; our goal is to provide a space where they can become the people they have always wanted to be.
At Spero Recovery, we immerse our clients in a 12-step community. They find sponsors, meet up with them regularly, and work through the 12 Steps. Members of the community pass down the gift of recovery to our clients, which allows them to begin the process of recovery and eventually pass on the gift to other clients.
We also offer experiential programming, which includes hikes and other outdoor activities. We also have a full woodworking shop. Inviting specialists onto the premises, such as meditation teachers and chefs, is one of our favorite things to do. Our goal is to teach our clients essential life skills and the importance of building relationships.
Men’s Residential Addiction Treatment at Our Drug Rehab Center
At Spero Recovery Center, we offer a men’s residential treatment program for men. Clients stay onsite for a minimum of 30 days and have the option to stay up to 90 days. Our clients work through the 12 Steps during a residential stay and are immersed in a recovery community.
Our center is located in the woods with nice homes and high-quality appliances. This residential recovery program is designed to promote healing and long-term success by addressing the whole person — mind, body, and spirit. Our mission is to provide accessible, high-quality care. Clients benefit from a supportive environment that offers flexibility and comprehensive therapy, leading to significant benefits that positively impact their lives.
Upon completion of our residential programming at Spero Recovery, our clients emerge equipped with a comprehensive understanding of the 12 Steps, coupled with a steadfast sense of accountability and a sponsor to support them throughout the rest of their recovery journey. An integral milestone in their recovery journey, the ninth step of Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) is a pivotal focus during this phase. The ninth step involves making amends to those harmed during one’s addiction, fostering personal growth and reconciliation.

Using 12-step programming, we provide substance abuse treatment for many substance use disorders, including addiction to alcohol, cocaine, marijuana, meth, and prescription drug use, with a key focus on alcohol. Our clinical director has over two decades of experience with various treatment modalities. With clinical oversight, men are given the opportunity to evaluate their past behaviors, repair relationships, and begin a life free from substances.
The devastating effects of substance use can impact every aspect of a person’s life. Overcoming addiction is essential for healing and rebuilding a healthy, fulfilling future.
Our supportive environment and programming treat clients as a whole person rather than treating symptoms of addiction. At Spero Recovery Center, men will have the opportunity to participate in group meetings, outpatient treatment services, experiential therapies, and community events. The 12 Steps (known for helping to treat alcoholism) guide our residents to long-lasting sobriety.

Dual Diagnosis Support: Mental Health & Addiction Recovery for Men
At Spero Recovery Center, we can help clients with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorders. This means that men with substance use disorders that co-occur with mental health challenges can receive support in our program.
Anxiety and depression disorders, for example, are common mental illnesses to exist at the same time as a substance use disorder. It’s important to treat a coexisting mental illness and substance use disorder concurrently because a mental health concern can be one of the underlying causes of addiction. We specifically address the needs of men who are struggling with both substance use and mental health issues, providing support and resources to help them on their recovery journey.
In Spero Recovery Center’s residential program for men, clients participate in group therapy and wilderness therapy to help manage and overcome symptoms of mental health disorders. Upon request, clients can have access to different therapeutic approaches. If someone requests or needs therapy, they will be connected with a therapist. Our program does not provide therapy, but we can connect men with off-site therapists to accommodate their needs.
Therapies Tailored for Men’s Recovery
At Spero Recovery Center, we recognize that effective addiction treatment must be designed around the unique needs of each individual. For men, this often means addressing emotional suppression, societal expectations, and the underlying causes of substance use through targeted, experiential care. Our men’s rehab program integrates a variety of evidence-based therapies and holistic approaches that support physical, emotional, and spiritual healing.
Some of the therapies and recovery tools available in our men’s program include:
12-Step Immersion: The foundation of our program, guiding men through the proven process of spiritual and personal transformation with peer mentorship and sponsor relationships.
Group Therapy & Peer Support Circles: These create space for honest conversation, accountability, and emotional growth, breaking down the barriers many men face when sharing openly.
Experiential Therapies: From wilderness hikes to woodworking, music, meditation, and yoga, these activities help men reconnect with themselves, reduce stress, and build confidence through hands-on healing.
Recovery Education Groups: Covering topics like relapse prevention, emotional regulation, healthy relationships, and living spiritually, these sessions equip men with the skills they need to thrive beyond treatment.
Optional Clinical Therapy: Clients can be referred to outside licensed therapists for one-on-one or trauma-informed therapy, ensuring co-occurring mental health needs are addressed.
Our goal is to meet men where they are. We build a supportive recovery culture that allows them to explore vulnerability, develop resilience, and discover what true strength looks like in recovery and life.
Gender-specific treatment at our drug rehab center is beneficial to the recovery process.. In our residential treatment program for men, clients work on recovery with peers and get to focus on issues that may affect them based on gender.
Men often hear phrases such as:
“Man up.”
“Tough it out.”
“Boys don’t cry.”
“Be a man.”
As a society, we teach our men that talking about their emotions and feelings is a sign of weakness. Just because men are told to hide their feelings doesn’t mean they don’t have any. Men who experience sadness or grief are more likely to channel their feelings into different emotions that are seen as more socially acceptable, such as anger. This stigma may be the reason men turn to substance use, continuing to suppress what they genuinely feel.
At Spero Recovery Center, we want to get to the core of why men drink alcohol or use drugs and help them build a strong foundation of accountability and community where they’ll feel safe. Spero Recovery Center also helps men identify the underlying causes of their addiction and emotional struggles. We support a holistic and lasting recovery.
